Louisiana Crawfish Festival
Chalmette,
LA
St. Bernard
County, USA
Held on the
Last
Weekend
of
March
for
4
day(s)
Description:
2004 marks the 29th anniversary of the Louisiana Crawfish Festival. As in past years, the festival will be held on the grounds of the St. Bernard Cultural Center (8245 W. Judge Perez Dr.) in Chalmette, Louisiana.
The festival draws people from the entire metro area as well as from other states and even other countries! Food and fun for all ages are available. The festival will offer over sixty amusement rides for children of all ages and 40 booths of games and attractions of all kinds will be there for your pleasure. The arts and crafts area that was introduced in 2003 will be back and it will be bigger and better than ever. The rock-climbing wall will return to challenge the young and the old. And the Louisiana Crawfish Festival will have plenty of what it is most famous for…CRAWFISH! The festival will feature over 25 different crawfish dishes. And for those who don’t like crawfish (Do those people really exist?) the festival will have a wonderful selection of non-crawfish dishes.
Also, the 2004 version of the festival is boasting one of the greatest entertainment lineups in the festival’s history. In addition to our great lineup of bands (see below) the mascots and dance teams of many local professional sports teams will be making appearances this year along with a scheduled appearance by the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. Miss Louisiana Crawfish Festival will be joined in 2004 by Miss Teen Louisiana Crawfish Festival, Ms. Louisiana Crawfish Festival, Baby Miss Louisiana Crawfish Festival and Master Louisiana Crawfish Festival. The Louisiana Crawfish Festival 5K Road Race returns for its second year and of course we cannot forget the World-Famous Crawfish Races!
The Louisiana Crawfish Festival is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The Knights are a charitable organization that gives back to the community by helping such groups as Children's Hospital of New Orleans, public and parochial schools in St. Bernard, youth programs such as the Boy Scouts, summer camps for the local youths, the St. Bernard Battered Women’s Shelter and many more. Most of the proceeds will go back into the local community.
Come and bring the whole family to the Louisiana Crawfish Festival. Take I-10 to I-510 South (Chalmette exit). Continue south on Highway 47 (Paris Road) to Highway 39 West (Judge Perez Dr.). Turn left and go two miles to the St. Bernard Civic Center and the festival.

A Different Kind of Festival
Just about any weekend, somewhere in Louisiana there’s a festival celebrating one of the joys found in the state where Laissez Les Bon Temps Roule is a way of life. Many of these are a celebration of the food, especially the seafood – shrimp, crabs, fish, crawfish, and oysters – that make this area a gourmet’s paradise for residents and a legend around the world. This bounty we enjoy is only possible because of the rich, watery landscape of rivers, bayous, marshes and lakes we have in southeastern Louisiana, a populace that has made harvesting these resources a central part of their culture for over three hundred years, and a unique collection of boats that has evolved to operate in this maritime environment.
Every year, St. Tammany hosts a tribute not to seafood, but to the hand crafted wooden boats that originally made it possible for us to enjoy these marine delicacies. This year on October 16th and 17th, the 15th annual Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival will return to the banks of the Tchefuncte River. Hundreds of boats will line the banks of the Tchefuncte River and as many as 30,000 wooden boat, music, food and craft enthusiasts are expected to attend some or all of the activities on what is typically a lovely fall weekend.
In addition to the craftsmanship and mystique of building, owning and operating classic wooden boats, both locals and visitors from near and far are drawn to this one of a kind festival by its wide variety of attractions and activities designed for the whole family. Visitors are fascinated by the beautifully restored and maintained wooden boats themselves, and can also sample a wide assortment of Louisiana food favorites and shop at craft booths selling marine-related products, art, and handmade craft items. Each day, at a venue dubbed “Woodenstock,” a lineup of top popular local musical groups like the Blue Meanies, Four Unplugged, the Chee Wheez, and the Topcats will play. The always popular Children’s Village with a new lineup of entertainment and activities especially designed for the young ones should be more popular than ever this year, and the annual “Quick and Dirty Boat Race” will draw thousands of spectators to see if boats that were hastily built in a few hours on Saturday can stay afloat on Sunday.
The festival is the primary source of funding for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, which has a mission of researching, preserving, and displaying to the public the incredibly rich maritime history of Lake Pontchartrain and the waterways flowing in and out of it. Since opening its first exhibits a little over a year and a half ago, the Museum has assembled a collection that has been extremely well received by visitors, who do not expect to find something of this size and quality in the quaint little town of Madisonville.

Description:
2005 LUMBERJACK FESTIVAL
Springhill, LA
The Springhill Lumberjack Festival is gearing up for the 2005 celebration, and the organizing committee is now accepting reservations for booth space.
The 2005 festival is slated for October 7-8, and the excitement is already building for what will be the 22nd annual celebration of the fall festival.
Individuals or organizations, for-profit or non-profit, may reserve booth space either inside the Springhill Civic Center or outside in the park. Booth spaces are 10 feet by 12 feet and reservations can now be made by calling “The Sticker Lady” at 318-539-2071.
One of the highlights of the Lumberjack Festival is the Timber Sports competition. Local timber man, Terry Warlick, has organized this event for many years and plans are taking shape for the greatest competition ever with entrants from all over the United States. The action begins at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 8th, with prize money being awarded to the top competitors in 12 different events. The Timber Sports Committee is seeking event sponsors who will be recognized on a sponsor board as well as being announced before and during each event.
Sponsorship in the Timber Sports competition is $500 per event, and any company or individual, can become a supporter by contributing that amount of money to the Springhill Lumberjack Festival. Co-sponsorships are available for $250. Those interested in helping the Timber Sports reach new levels of competition and entertainment should call Cliff Carter, Festival President, at 318-539-2071.
The official Lumberjack Festival T-Shirt will be on sale at the Lions Club Booth. The proceeds from shirt sales go to provide glasses for those in need, the summer children’s camp, and various other projects undertaken by the dedicated Lion members.
Also on tap will be Springhill Main Street’s 7th Annual Street Rod, Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, located in the Springhill-North Webster Chamber of Commerce parking area. This project is offered by Springhill Main Street, local endorsers, and directed by Springhill Main Street Manager, Jan Willis-Corrales. Co-Chairman are Cindy Tucker and Mike Deloney. There is a $10.00 registration fee to cover costs of trophies and advertising. All registrants are encouraged to participate in the parade. For further information, call Jan –Willis Corrales at 318-539-5699, Mike Deloney at 318-994-3095, or Cindy Tucker at 1-870-859-9753.
A new addition this year will be a Tractor and Engine Show located adjacent to the city park and organized by James Burns. If you have a tractor or engine you wish to show call Mr. Burns at 1-870-859-5750.
As always, there will be live entertainment in the park throughout the festival under the direction of Jill Hodges. Center stage Friday evening will feature a band performance by “Stormy Weather”. This is their first appearance at the festival and I’m sure you’ll enjoy their musical variety.
The Springhill Lumberjack Festival parade will begin Saturday, October 8th, at 10:00 A.M. All groups and individuals are welcome to be included and enjoy the thrill of the crowd. Line up will begin at 9:30 A.M. in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. To get a parade spot call 318-539-4717 and talk to Terri, Chamber Manager. Following the parade, entertainment will begin in the park. By overwhelming requests, a special time slot of Gospel music from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P. M. will be offered. Groups from all over the Ark-La-Tex will be on hand to lift your spirits.
Springhill native, Carl Bamburg, will serve as the Saturday emcee culminating with the evening finale highlighting Springhill’s own “Loose Gravel” and other guest musicians.
There will be lots of food booths both days to please and satisfy every festival-goer. The 22nd Annual Lumberjack Festival continues its tradition of enjoyment for the whole family with no entrance fee. Springhill invites everyone to join them on October 7th and 8th in Springhill, Louisiana.
