The annual Spring Fling celebrates the rites of spring on the last weekend in April with the Surf & Turf Triathlon, miniature golf and hole-in-one tourneys, arts and crafts, music and more. The Triathlon (bike/swim/5K run) requires a pre-registration fee; the other events are free.
This is one worth planning your vacation around! The last weekend of April will see everything from Rock & Roll bands to beach stunt kite flying. There is even a stage performance by Jazzbo the Clown, Magic Shows for the children (and the rest of us who didn't grow up). Stage Bands; 2nd Marine Division Band, Topsail Underground, Imitations and Heart & Soul will keep the streets rocking.
Saturday gets kicked off with the Surf & Turf Triathlon (see below) and the kite flying contest starts at 2:00 pm and continues on Sunday. There are prizes for all kinds of kite categories, even the brightest lit kite that evening - I love the rules on this one... You can light your kite with anything you want "but the kite must be able to fly." Jazzbo and Ballooney June will take the stage at 1:00pm and the bands will fire up later in the afternoon and go until. It all starts again on Sunday with the Celebrity Golf Tournament! Some one might walk away from this golf game with a brand new car!

1/2 mile ocean swim, 12 mile bike course (three loops), and 5 k run, half on the beach. Registration $40.00, early registration guarantees a t-shirt. USA Triathlon sanctioned. Sanctioning fee required ($7.00 one time event or $25.00 annual - can be purchased at event registration. Relay Race $ 75.00, members, non-members $75.00 + $7.00 each. Race day registration $10.00, for individual or $15.00 for teams. 2nd race in the 2000 North Carolina Triathlon Series. Headquarters and transition area, Surf City Fire Department Parking Lot.
